This recipe is a tradition in my house, and for the first time my grandmother’s hand cookie press wasn’t working this year.  It made me very sad that I could use it (and get my usual cookie shapes) but instead I rolled the dough into a tube shape, let it firm up in the fridge and sliced it.  It was easy to do and the results are still tasty. Enjoy! Buttery Shortbread *adapted from recipe originally posted on www.bitofmomsense.com Ingredients[...]

After attending Blissdom Canada earlier this month, one of the sponsors, Kraft Canada, gave out bags of their little Kraft caramels. This is how I decided to use them: For the chocolate cake, I used this 5 minute cake-in-a-mug recipe.  It made a tall mug that I cut for each guest. To make the caramel, I microwaved some caramel squares and milk for about a minute, and stirred.  I drizzled that on the cake. The ice cream is from local[...]

This is one of those recipes you whip up that ends up impressing your guests with the way it looks and more importantly, the way it tastes.  Enjoy! Ingredients: 1/2 package of puff pastry, thawed 1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet. Also can use semi-sweet pieces of chocolate bars) icing sugar Directions: 1-Roll out the puff pastry and slice into 4 long pieces. 2-Sprinkle chocolate chips across the length of pastry. Don’t overfill! 3-Roll the pastry forming a croissant[...]

This are far too easy!  If you have chocolate chips or butterscotch chips, you could use those instead of the peanut butter. Ingredients: 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 can condensed milk 1 tsp vanilla 1 package peanut butter chips Directions: 1-Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. 2-Spread into 8×8 greased pan. 3-Bake at 350 degrees for approx 25 minutes. When they come out of the oven they will appear soft, but will firm up as they cool. Enjoy!

A few months ago I mused on Facebook how I was having to eat gluten- and dairy-free to get control of some ongoing gut issues I’ve been dealing with for a long time.  I noted that gluten-free breads are just a cruel joke and should not be allowed to carry the word ‘bread’ in their description.  In response, my Aunt Cheryl in Edmonton sent me a link to a cookie recipe that she said saved her when she was eating[...]

Baking is my passion.  It’s also my business.  “Will bake for money” has become my moniker.  As proprietor of Sugarplum Fairy Homebaking I’ve been able to turn my passion into a bit of pocket money.  It also means that I spend a lot of time trying new recipes that my customers might want to try.  But I always seem to come back to my favourites; those recipes that I keep in my badly stained and torn card holder, most of[...]
