congratulations Heather R. You were the winner!! #19 as selected by Random.org
Thanks everyone for your great comments – I think we will need to look into seasonal cooking again.
A Little Bit of Foodsense loves cookbook giveaways! And we are very excited to have another one for you.
Thanks to our friends at Ten Thousand Villages in Ottawa, you have a chance to win:
First, I have to say I am a huge fan of Ten Thousand Villages. I’ve purchased gifts for my husband, mother, mother in law and others. I love their coffee, the kids love their hot chocolate and when we go they get to buy a Fair Trade chocolate treat.
Ten Thousand Villages ensures items are bought for a fair price and are paid directly, so even when items in the store go on sale, the artisan already has been paid.
The Cookbook
The cookbook is full of hearty recipes according to season and even has a chart that lists different fruits and vegetables. Ever wonder what that unusual veggie is at the Farmers’ Market? This book can tell you – and tell you how to prepare it.
Recipes include a variety of breads, fresh salads, and amazing dinners.
To Win:
Comment with what your favourite season to cook in is. Is it Fall because of Thanksgiving? Winter because of soups and stews? Summer BBQ? Spring greens?
Be sure to leave a valid email address to be contacted in the comment form.
Giveaway ends Monday, June 6 9 pm EST
One entry per person, must be in Canada.
The book will be mailed to the winner.
Thanks Judy and Ten Thousand Villages in Ottawa for the awesome prize!

I love cooking in the winter. I make tons of different kinds of soups!
I love being able to buy fresh produce from the farmer’s market or pick things from my garden, so I pick summer
The fall, harvest time is my favourite time to cook. All the root veggies ready to go.
Roasting, simmering, baking, awesome!
plus…it’s no longer hot outside so it’s nice to use the oven again!!!!
I love to cook in spring – local asparagus, rhubarb and fresh lobster and scallops.
While cooking in the fall and winter always warms the soul, I love cooking in the spring the best with so much newly sprouted produce, crispy and fresh. It’s like a seasonal wake up call.
My favourite season to cook in is early Autumn. The tomatoes and late peaches are still abundant, and cool crops like beets, onions and lettuces are coming back. Apples are just starting to be available and days are still warm enough to grill or cool enough to braise meats.
I love summer when tomatoes are ripe and you can just pick them off the vine and eat them.
Summer! I love the abundance of fresh vegetables because it makes it so much easier to cook and eat local food. Whenever I visit my parents, my mom sends me home with an armload of produce from her garden.
Late summer. It’s when I discovered home-made plum sauce!
Late summer is the best time, when you can stroll out into the garden and pick both hot and cool season crops: tomatoes, peppers, squash, lettuce, spinach, carrots, beans… all things needed for side dishes to a meal, nutritious, local, and rewarding to grow yourself.
I love cooking in the late summer. As soon as my father-in-law’s tomatoes ripen, we are in for some good eats.
I like to cook in the fall and winter using the tomatoes and other produce that my wonderful gardening clients offer me over the summer and fall. My T-Fal pressure cooker is the best appliance I have and it saves electricity!
I love summer when you can pick your own strawberries and make strawberry pies, have fresh field tomatoes and big flowing baskets of blueberries.
Awesome giveaway Becky! I’m a huge fan of Ten thousand Villages and all of the wonderful opportunities they provide for artisans world wide. I choose winter since I SO enjoy making soups, Chili and other comfort food!
Tough one – i suppose winter and the Christmas season. Fun to bake all those yummy treats.
I love cooking in the summer because you can pick fresh and colourful fruits and veggies right out of the garden!
I absolutely love cooking in the summer. Fresh salads with roasted chicken and berries, cold soup on a hot day, home-made hamburgers on the patios!
I like to cook in the Fall. I cook sugar pie pumpkins in my slow cooker. I make a Pumpkin Soup out of my Halloween (uncut) pumpkin. I make Acorn Soup out of the squash and use the acorn as the “bowl.” I also start roasting vegetables in the oven again like potatoes, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin.
I pick summer! I absolutely love making crisp summer salads from all the available produce. There’s tons to pick from
Thanks for the opportunity!
I love to cook in the winter. Christmas treats and warm hearty meals!
I love the flavors of Autumn. Warm. Sweet and spicy.
Outdoor cooking ROCKS, so my pick is summer -> As soon as the potatoes and corn are ready for harvesting – roasted on the BBQ with a fresh catch from the lake and a straight-out-of-the-garden salad!
This is a toughie! We are so lucky to have a variety of foods to cook with in Canada! I guess if I *have to* ; ) choose, I will choose Autumn. You know, when the weather of hot summer days turns to “jeans and sweater” weather and the days grow shorter, the comfort of a home cooked meal made with all those yummy root veggies just can’t be beat! Families gather after long days at school and work to regroup and recharge with a meal that boasts the flavours of Fall! YUM!
Love love love to cook during summer. Fresh produce. Ready to be mixed with some olive oil and balsamic and grilled on the bbq… Sprinkle on some feta or chèvre. Delicious. Just need to invite some friends over now!
I love cooking in fall, after the harvest and with all the new root vegetables
