Hot Chocolate is the go to drink in my family once the cold weather activities start. Normally I make a healthy skim milk hot chocolate, but sometimes… you just need the rich, creamy real deal. Since most of this requires you to be working over the stove, it’s a good idea to give little ones a separate but important job, such as making sure everyone has the same number of marshmallows.

Ingredients

1 cup skim milk

1 cup half and half

6 TSP sugar

1 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped

1 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped

2 TBSP dark brown sugar

1/2 TSP vanilla

Heat everything except the vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat until chocolate melts and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Using a hand blender, mix chocolate mixture until frothy. You can transfer half to a blender to accomplish the same task and then return it to the sauce pan. Add vanilla, stir then serve.

Makes 2-4 servings depending on your tolerance for rich desserts.

Yum! I usually cheat and just warm up chocolate milk, but this sounds delicious. Sounds like something my 11 year old would like to make.

    ’1 cup half and half’??
